Serving God and the Community since 1746.

Our Vision

We see our primary ministry as fourfold:

1. To enhance personal spiritual growth with continued study of God’s written word and through the gift of grace offered to us in Christ's life and teachings.

2. To provide strong pastoral support for our church family.

3. To share the joy and spiritual growth that comes from serving local, regional, and global neighbors in need.

4. To work cooperatively and synergistically with other congregations and denominations in worship, mission work, and in fellowship.

New Pickleball court

In the fall of 2023, New Providence had the tennis and basketball courts resurfaced and lines painted for a new Pickleball Court. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America for the third year in a row! In April, 2024 the court was put into use and a clinic was held with gracious instruction by members of the Rockbridge Pickleball Club. Reach out if you’d like to connect to other players in the area. Our courts and playground are open to the public!

"X" marks the spot almost exactly a year to the day, March 27, 2023

“X” marked the spot just over a year before, March 27, 2023. The new sign was actually installed on March 27, 2024!

Historical marker dedicated

Immediately following the 11:00 a.m. worship service on Sunday, April 14, New Providence

Presbyterian Church in Raphine, VA dedicated a Virginia Historical Marker on the church

grounds.

In September 2022, the New Providence Session approved the History Committee’s proposal to

move the existing marker, and the process began. New Providence submitted photos of the

existing marker and suggested text revisions to DHR. DHR requested additional documentation

to support the revised text and New Providence supplied copies of source material such as “The

Diary of Henry Boswell Jones of Brownsburg (1842-1871).” Jones was the Chairman of the

Building Committee for the erection of the current Greek Revival sanctuary. The 2016 marker

noted that the sanctuary was completed in 1859; the revised text reflects the date when the

congregation actually began worshiping in the new building, 1857.

Community playground open!

Our Community Playground was dedicated on Sunday October 22, 2023!

Over the last few years New Providence has opened its doors to the children of the community. These efforts, combined with the joy of increased participation of our youngest disciples in church has inspired us to set our sights on an updated playground to be used by the local community. You are welcome to come and enjoy it with your family!

Our tennis and basketball courts were also updated and now include a pickleball court! Be sure to bring your own balls and rackets and enjoy it!
